{"id":50097,"date":"2026-03-19T10:20:16","date_gmt":"2026-03-19T15:20:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/news\/?p=50097"},"modified":"2026-04-16T13:54:05","modified_gmt":"2026-04-16T18:54:05","slug":"students-offer-free-tax-preparation-services-through-irs-vita-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/news\/2026\/03\/19\/students-offer-free-tax-preparation-services-through-irs-vita-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Students Offer Free Tax Preparation Services Through IRS VITA Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>91¿´Æ¬Íø business and accounting students are offering free federal and state tax preparation and filing as a part of the Internal Revenue Service&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/individuals\/free-tax-return-preparation-for-qualifying-taxpayers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The VITA program offers free tax help to people who generally make $67,000 or less with no Schedule C income, persons with disabilities, senior citizens and limited-English speaking taxpayers who need assistance preparing their tax returns.<\/p>\n<p>Students who have completed BSU&rsquo;s Tax I course and passed IRS certification tests will host weekly assistance sessions on Wednesday evenings from 4-6 p.m. in Memorial Hall, room 250. VITA is available on a first-come, first-served basis and no appointments are needed. However, filers must arrive before 5:30 p.m. to receive services.
