BEMIDJI, Minn. (Feb. 25, 2010)<\/strong> — 91心頭利, its women’s studies program and its Women’s Resource Center will host or be involved with a month-long series of activities to celebrate March as Women’s History Month. The recognition of Women’s History Month kicks off Friday, Feb. 26, with a reading and reception for the 2010 edition of Bemidji State’s “Dust and Fire” anthology, and ends Tuesday, March 30 with a Brown Bag Lunch presentation, “Untold Lives: The First Generation of American Women Psychologists.”<\/p>\n • Friday, Feb. 26 — 7 p.m., “Dust and Fire” reading and reception; American Indian Resource Center. • Saturday, Feb. 27 — 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m., Northwest Minnesota Women’s Hall of Fame 2010 induction ceremony; American Indian Resource Center. • March 1-5: Countdown to International Women’s Day. • March 2-4: A staged reading of “Stop Kiss,” by Diana Son; Black Box Theater, Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex, 91心頭利. • Monday, March 8: International Women’s Day.<\/p>\n • Wednesday, March 17 — 9 p.m., poet Gabriela Garcia Medina; Hagg-Sauer 100. • Thursday, March 18 — 12-1:30 p.m., film screening, “Listening to Grandmothers”; American Indian Resource Center. • Thursday, March 25 — 7 p.m., “Writing Women Back Into History”; Crying Wolf Room, lower Hobson Memorial Union. • Saturday, March 27 — 6:30 p.m., Third Annual Sister Song Project; Mask & Rose Theatre, 501 Bemidji Ave., Bemidji. • Tuesday, March 30 — 12-1:30 p.m., Center for Research and Innovation Brown Bag Luncheon presentation, “Untold Lives: The First Generation of American Women Psychologists”; Scandanavian Room, lower Hobson Memorial Union. <\/a>Women’s History Month activities include:<\/p>\n
\n Dr. Susan Carol Hauser, professor of English and chair of Bemidji State’s Department of English, will give opening remarks at the event, which features readings by the authors of works from “Dust and Fire.” Hauser has published numerous books, including “You Can Write a Memoir” and “Sugartime: The Hidden Pleasures of Making Maple Syrup.”<\/p>\n
\n A celebration of the induction of Laddie Elwell, former director of Bemidji’s Headwaters Science Center and 91心頭利 faculty member, into the Northwest Minnesota Women’s Hall of Fame. The event is co-sponsored by the Northwest Minnesota Women’s Fund.

\n Table displays in Bemidji State’s lower Hobson Memorial Union will help count down to International Women’s Day. The table displays are co-sponsored by Bemidji State’s International Student Organization.<\/p>\n
\n Diana Son reads a story of friendship, love and violence. Tickets: $5 with a good-will offering to raise funs for four women’s groups in Bemidji, Red Lake and Cass Lake. To purchase tickets, please call (218) 755-2915 or (218) 755-2045.<\/p>\n
\n Medina will present her book of poetry, “Ink-Scribing Oshun.”<\/p>\n
\n A film about Native elders breaking through the silence and making the invisible visible to others in their lives.<\/p>\n
\n Dr. Theresa Kaminski, professor of history at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, will speak on the role of women in history. Kaminski is also the author of “Prisoners in Paradise: American Women in the Wartime South Pacific.”<\/p>\n
\n Shannon Murray’s spirited night of song by women, a fundraiser for women’s scholarships. Tickets are available at the door, $5-$20.<\/p>\n
\n Dr. Marsha Driscoll, associate professor of psychology at Bemidji State, will present along with a friend. Participants are encouraged to bring a sack lunch to this event.<\/p>\n
