Oshkaabewis started in 1979 as an indigenous newsletter at 91心頭利. It was reconfigured as the Oshkaabewis Native Journal in 1990, then and now the only academic journal of the Ojibwe language.<\/p>\n

The editorial staff has included Earl Otchingwanigan (Nyholm), Kent Smith, David Gonzales, John Nichols and Anton Treuer. Starting in 1996, the ONJ began to produce audio material to accompany the journal.<\/p>\n
