Bemidji State’s RN-BS Nursing Program Ranks High Nationally /academics/distance/2018/10/18/bemidji-states-rn-bs-nursing-program-ranks-high-nationally/ Thu, 18 Oct 2018 17:08:34 +0000 /academics/distance/?p=2562 Check out Bemidji State’s RN-BS Nursing program here.

recently ranked BSU’s RN-BS Nursing program very high in the top 50 RN-BS programs in the country – ahead of any other Minnesota, North Dakota, or Wisconsin school.

Our RN-BS program is designed for working RNs as well as for students who just completed their RN training and are ready to continue on to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The program requirements can be completed in as little as a calendar year, or students can work, raise families, or just attend at a slower pace by taking a course or two each semester. This structure allows the most opportunities to advance as possible.

The Best Option for Me /academics/distance/2017/11/17/the-best-option-for-me/ Fri, 17 Nov 2017 22:04:36 +0000 http://www.bemidjistate.edu/academics/distance/?p=2338 BSU’s Extended Learning options provided Carolyn with the flexibility she needed to complete her BS degree in Business Administration, through a combination of in-person and online classes in our program.

“I chose the BSU extended learning program because it was the best option for me. I finished my associates at Anoka-Ramsey Community College and was stuck between transferring to an expensive 4-year college near me or to an affordable college far away but I would have to pay for room and board. [The BSU] program was perfect, because I was still able to get my business degree without needing to spend a lot.”

Carolyn was a scholarship award winner in 2016, and has gone on to complete her degree on her timeline. Utilizing the award, she said she “had a clearer mindset and [could] focus on my classes rather than working extra hours to pay for school.” Congratulations on your degree, Carolyn!

BSU Biology Student Summer Research /academics/distance/2017/04/25/bsu-biology-student-summer-research/ Tue, 25 Apr 2017 19:57:52 +0000 http://www.bemidjistate.edu/academics/distance/?p=2179 Mentored summer laboratory research is a key formative experience for many scientists, cementing their laboratory skills, establishing professional and scholarly networks, and building the scientific habits of mind necessary for successful research.  But summer research positions are scarce, and funding is difficult to obtain.

This is why we’re so excited that three students were selected to spend the summer in competitive fully-funded research positions at some of the top research universities in the country.

  • Marcus Kelly will be at the University of Minnesota’s Masonic Cancer Center studying the role of cell adhesion and migration in brain cancer in the Biomedical Engineering lab of Professor David Odde
  • Afeez Sodeinde will be in Boston at the Broad Institute, Harvard and MIT’s collaborative genome center
  • Alan Montes Alcantar will be at the McDonnell Genome Institute at Washington University in St. Louis, one of the main hubs of the Human Genome Project.

In addition to world-class research training, each of these programs includes training in science communication and professional skills.  We are so proud of these three young scientists and can’t wait to learn from them when they return in the fall.

A Career in Cancer Research /academics/distance/2017/01/31/a-career-in-cancer-research/ Tue, 31 Jan 2017 22:03:34 +0000 http://www.bemidjistate.edu/academics/distance/?p=2090 Marcus Kelly, a BSU Biology Baccalaureate Partnership student, has been chosen for an MCC CURE Cancer Internship, an amazing multi-year long opportunity focused on training students for a career in cancer research.

Marcus is one of just five undergraduate students chosen to participate in this program for at least two years and beyond.  He’ll participate in hands-on training in cancer research, educational seminars, and career and professional skills development at the University of Minnesota Masonic Cancer Center.  He’ll be participating in these activities throughout the year, while continuing to take NHCC and BSU courses, as he progresses toward his B.S. Biology degree.

We’re really proud of Marcus and excited about his future!
